EDquity at the Margins operates at the intersection of special education law, racial equity, and what families are owed under it. Every dollar we receive goes directly to closing a documented gap in who gets advocacy.
The Problem We Solve
A documented disparity
Research consistently shows that Black, Brown, economically disadvantaged, and rural families receive fewer and less appropriate special education services than their white, higher-income peers, despite identical legal protections.
A legal solution that exists
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act already guarantees every eligible child a free and appropriate public education. The gap is enforcement capacity, not law.
A market that fails families
Private special education advocates bill by the hour at rates well beyond the reach of most households. The families who most need advocacy are the least able to pay market rates, so we charge them nothing.
How the Work Sustains Itself
We are a family-first organization with a two-sided model. Schools and systems enroll in the IEP Quality Improvement Program and the EDquity Leader Fellowship, and ten percent of every school engagement fee is designated to the Family Audit Fund, which keeps our family services free. Earned revenue is the floor under this work; it does not disappear when a grant cycle ends.
Philanthropy is how the work reaches further than earned revenue alone can carry it. Your dollars fund free audits beyond what the fund covers and build the capacity to deliver them: the secure portal families submit through, the workshops, and the published tools parents keep.

Sponsor a Child's Audit
Our first-year goal is 100 independent IEP audits for children in minority families. Each audit covers one child's IEP and costs $250 to deliver, free to the family, so your gift translates directly into children served.

A champion for education equity

A two-page brief on the year-long program: what our first nine audits found, how the year runs, how we measure whether a student's IEP improved, and what a $1,000 seat covers.
Institutional Sponsorship
Separately from family sponsorships, funders may underwrite a Leader Fellowship seat for an under-resourced school. One seat is $8,000 and funds the full fellowship year, including the donated evaluation services the school receives. Seat sponsors are invited to the annual Impact Expo, where fellows present their schools' measured results.
